The Nar-Phu Valley Trek takes you to the remote villages of Nar and Phu near Chame in the Annapurna region. It is one of Nepal's most untouched and beautiful regions. Nar and Phu are different but close villages inhabited by the Khampas (Tibetan refugees), and you will get to experience their lifestyle firsthand.
There are two passes Kang La Pass (5,240m) and Thorong La Pass (5,416 meters). In Nar-Phu are, we can Stay in ancient villages that have seen little change over the centuries and observe the Tibetain culture and lifestyle of the area. Not only this, we can observe Yaks grazing on their pastures. The landscap is extraordinaire. We can see the lots of beautiful mountains and peaks during this trek.

Trip Itinerary

Flight to Kathmandu from different cities

Arrival at Kathmandu airport (usually in the afternoon) already marks our entry into another world... Customs formalities, baggage collection and welcome by our local French-speaking guide. Crossing the city to the hotel already offers a first discovery of the bustling and colorful capital of Nepal. Buses, trucks, bicycles and sacred cows crisscross in a friendly chaos... Depending on the arrival time, visit the surrounding area or simply settle in and rest at the hotel before your dinner at the hotel.
In case of early arrival in Kathmandu, lunch will be included in the program.

Take the bus to Besishar (about 6 hours drive). Change vehicles, take the jeep to go Dharapani(the evening stage) 4 hours of 4*4. Dharapani is a small, where is the control point for the permits of the trek. Now it is the gateway to enter the classic Annapurnas trek. There are more than 20 lodges and some local houses.

After 45 minutes of walking, we arrive at the village of Bagarchap (bank of the river). This is where the course of Marsyangdi curves to take an east-west direction. Bagarchap marks the limit between the humid valleys to the south, that the wind crosses and the dry areas of Upper Marsyangdi, less affected by monsoon rains. We see seventh largest mountain in the world Manaslu 8163m. The change in vegetation is evident after the subtropical forest, we discover very beautiful expanses of blue pines, spruces and oaks. We stop at Koto village before Chame (The Headquarter of Manang district). Which seperate the route of Annapurna circuit trek and Nar-Phu trek.

Today, the landscap will be different. The beautiful day with short walk. It's around maximun 5 hours of walk. It depends upon on our walk that we lunch before our camp at Chyaku or direct to our camp at Kang. We can see the beautiful mountains like Annapurna 2, Lamjung Himal and Pisang Peak. The valley is very beautiful. We walk through one small village Junam Goth. Our journey start with straight way up to Junam Goth and after steep gradually. And before crossing suspension bridge on the way to Chyaku, we have to get down small down steep and after crossing the bridge we climb up for 40 minutes to arrive at Chyaku village. There is small school, old typical houses, which is the last territory of Nar village, which is build for the settlement of Yaks babies. Now we can see newly build big lodges. We can lunch at Chyaku or we have to head for 1 and half hours to arrive our camp for night at Kang village from Chyaku village. We climb up gradually toward Kang from Chyaku. We cross small bridge of Iron and climb up to Keng pass (3950m) and descends down to our camp at Keng. We can see good views of Keng from the small pass. From the small river, we enter in Phu village territory.

Today, the landscap will be different. The beautiful day with short walk. It's around maximun 5 hours of walk. It depends upon on our walk that we lunch before our camp at Chyaku or direct to our camp at Kang. We can see the beautiful mountains like Annapurna 2, Lamjung Himal and Pisang Peak. Today we go towards one important village Phu gaon. We hike on ascends and descends frequently. You will then pass the Phu Khola on a rocky trail leaving behind submarine rocks and perhaps a few campsites before reaching Phu gate - the entry point of Phu Village. Nar and Phu villages are famous for their distinct blue sheep, unique culture, and religious practices. While we are at Phu Village, we will visit new build Monastery. Phu Village also provides splendid views of several Himalayan ranges - including Himlung Himal. We lunch at Phu-village and back to the Kang and take a tea and climb and descends to Chyaku village. We can stay at Keng village as well but better to go a forward, which helps us for the day to go to Nar-village.

We descends towards Nar-Phedi(3490m), where is a big monastery with monks. We have to cross Mahindra Pul (suspension bridge), which river is very beautiful with deepst gorge. We lunch at Monastery, It's around 3 hours of walk from Chayku. And after lunch we climb up steepy part up to Nar village. We pass the gate-way of Nar village. We can see the magnificient view of Kangaru Himal (6981m). Just before steeping to the beautiful Nar village, we pass throught big Stupas with long mani wall. It's very old monuments bouddhist, after by walking on easy straight way, we start to see the village with prayer flags on the roop top of the typical tibetain houses. We can see the way to the Kangla-pass as well. It's wonderful village with lots of culutre. The phu and Nar villages are empty in winter season. No-one stay in the village. Mostly people go down to Kathmandu to avoid the cold and climb up around mid-mars and stay up to fist December. There are comfortable lodges to stay.

Today is the most important and hard day of this trek. We start early in the morning to cross the Kang La Pass (5322m). We ascend through the lateral moraine of Temdenzon Khola on a pleasant path that passes through yak pastures while providing stunning views of the west ridge of the Pisang Peak. Then, the trek will take you to Jhombu Kharka, also known as Kang la Phedi - the bottom of Kang La pass.
From Kang La Phedi, we will slowly ascend to Kang La Pass. We climb up steep part, but it's not too difficult. From Kang La Pass pass, we can see the magnificient views of the Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. Then, we will trek about three more hours to reach Ngawal Village. Ngawal is beautiful village where we join the Annapurna Classique trek. We start to see lots of tourists.

Another important day, where we hike today to arrive the capital village of Annapurna Classique trek. Which is very famous for Annapurna Circuit Trek. We leave Ngwal and head to Manang along the banks of Marsyangdi River. We descends and ascends gradually towards Braga. One steeply climb just before arriving Manang village. We arrive for the lunch. And rest and free time to visit Manang after lunch.

Climb towards the hamlet of Ledar also called Yak Kharka because of the presence of yaks, this Himalayan area is in fact the kingdom of the yak, a bovid of Tibetan origin raised for its meat. There are areas of the "Thar" the wild goat which lives in herds. It rises steadily.

Go up to Ledar (4200m) after crossing the suspension bridge. Walk towards the pass base camp which is called Thorang Phedi. The name of the pass is Thorang-la and Phedi meaning base camp. 15/20 minutes of steep climbing otherwise climbs regularly.

Departure early in the morning for a long climb on trails and moraines and then arrive at the high camp. There is also a lodge. After high camp climb regularly. There are tea shops on the road and even at the summit pass (5419m). Thorang peak, Yakuwa kang and Thorangse. Descend several times steeply to reach the other side of base camp (4200m) to eat hot food. One can see the seventh largest mountain in the world (Dhaulagiri Himal 8167m). Quick visit to the magnificent complex of Buddhist and Hindu shrines. Muktinath is a place of Pilgrimage. There are 108 faucets which represent the 108 deities in Hinduism.

Today is the last day of the trek. We gradually climb up to one small view point after 1h30 of walk from Muktinath. We pass 2 small passes, from where we can see the magnificent views of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Nilgiri Himal (7061m). The views of landscape of Upper Mustang is extraordinaire. It's different than before Thorang-la pass. We descends toward Lubra hiding village. Where the people practice the oldest religion "Bonpo". It's small silent village. We walk around 1 hour after lunch by following the Lubra khola. And take bus of 20 minutes up to our camp for the night Jomsom, which is the capital city of Mustang region. We do the last party. We eat together with Nepalis staffs in this evening.

We take the flight to Pokhara at early in the morning. IT's around 20 minutes of flight. Pokhara is the second big and famous city of Nepal. It's very famous for lake and the reflect of the mountains in the lake (Phewa lake). The lakeside of Pokhara is very famous for the tourists. There are lots of monuments and historical places to visit. Walking in the street of lakeside in the evening with the music, lights and restaurants and boating in the lake is extraordinaire. Lots of people love to stay in Pokhara as the mountains are not so far and it's clean and peace as well.

We take a micro bus to Kathmandu. It takes around 7/8 hours of drive. We can see lots of cities, villages, fields etc on the way to Kathmandu. It's nice to discover by taking vehicles.

What is the difficulty level of Nar Phu Valley Trek?

Nar Phu Valley Trek is a moderate to fairly hard trek. The long day's walk and steep altitude ascents make this a comparatively tough trek. Because of the limited accommodation choices along the route, the distances that must be traveled each day are inflexible

What to expect from the accommodation in the Nar Phu Region?

Usually, the homestays are quite basic, with the family sharing the same space. At Nar Phedi, you will sleep in a Buddhist temple, sharing space with a monk.

What are the special features of Annapurna trekking?

Trekking in Annapurna region is always special as it is a unique place in the world as it contains world's largest rhododendron forest in Ghorepani, beautiful Tilicho lake which is the world's highest altitude fresh water lake also located in Manang – north of Annapurna massif.

Are guides required to trek in Nepal?

Since April 1, solo or independent trekkers must hire a guide or a porter to walk on Nepal's trekking trails. If you were asking, is guide compulsory in Nepal? the answer is yes. You will not be allowed to trek otherwise.
